SQS have a long and well-regarded partnership with UK Power Networks (UKPN) having provided services on their behalf for many years. When UKPN faced a difficult and high profile HV reinforcement project in the Surrey village of Cranleigh, SQS were the partner of choice. The project was on a ‘turnkey’ basis with SQS taking on overall responsibility for the traffic management, excavation, ducting, cable installation, back-fill and reinstatement.
New development
With a new large development and primary school being built in Cranleigh, UKPN needed to reinforce their high voltage infrastructure in the area. The project involved the reinforcement of 700m of 11kv cables between existing sub-stations right in the heart of the village. SQS were appointed Principal Contractor under CDM and given just six weeks to complete the project to coincide with the school summer holiday period.
Right first time, on time, every time
With a tight timeline and difficult traffic management needs to be met, SQS strengths in planning and co-ordination came to the fore. Safety remained top of the agenda throughout, and the works were completed right on schedule. The customer care team ensured everyone affected was kept fully informed of progress. A final half width carriage way resurfacing will complete the aesthetic restoration of the village centre location during the half-term school break.
